Bahraini Muhammar Rice
Sweet and spicy rice with garlic, cardamom, cinnamon, saffron and rose water
2 Cups Basmati Rice, Washed
1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
1/2 Cup Butter
6 Garlic Cloves
2 Tsp Ground Cardamom
2 Tsp Ground Cinnamon
1/4 Tsp Saffron
2 Tblsp Rose Water
- In a large saucepan add rice, sugar and 6 cups of boiling water, mix well then cook on a medium heat until rice is half cooked for about 8 minutes then drain.
- Heat 1/4 cup of butter in the same saucepan the rice was boiled then sauté the garlic for 1-2 minutes.
- Add rice then mix through the cardamom, cinnamon, saffron and rose water then cook over a very low heat for 10-15 minutes.
- Transfer to serving platter then top with 1/4 cup melted butter.
